Isaac lay on the altar, bound on the wood.
The man reached out his hand for the knife.
Then an angel said sternly, "Hold if you could.
We must now save this poor young man's life.
There's a ram in the bush; there is always a ram.
If you look you can find your way out of a jam.
God will make an escape from the devil's own scam.
You should search ev'ry bush for the ram.
I would wage the fight daily, tempted by sin.
The guilt cut through my heart like a knife.
But then Jesus said gently, "By death I win.
On the stake my blood gave you new life.
There's a ram in the bush; there is always a ram.
If you look you can find your way out of a jam.
God will make an escape from the devil's own scam.
You should search ev'ry bush for the ram.
I heard a singer on KLOVE radio talking about one of his songs, and he used the phrase, “there is always a ram.” Unfortunately, the radio network was unable to tell me who that was so that I could credit him as the inspiration for this song. The phrase was his, but I took it and expanded on it.
