[Piano version of music] [Video, sung by the composer] [Score of song]
Joshua built a pile of rocks
From Jordan where they were found.
Although the river was at flood
He crossed it on dry ground.
And children said,
“What do these stones mean?
Why do here they stand?”
God brought Israel across
Into the promised land.
Moses gave people the law
After they left Egypt’s land,
Writing down to be read
What he received firsthand.
And children said,
“What do these laws mean?
What is it God planned?”
God took Israel away
With such a mighty hand.
Each year a meal on the same night;
On the table the same spread:
Bitter herbs, and roast lamb,
Featuring unleavened bread,
And children said,
“What do these things mean?
Can you tell me why?”
God passed Israel over;
The firstborn did not die.
Jesus gave a meal to take,
Some bread and fruit of the vine.
Ev’ry week throughout the year
We take the feast divine.
And children said,
“What do these things mean?
You eat a bite and pray.”
Jesus died upon a cross
To take our sin away.
