Let's say that your having a problem with pornography and sinful desires is this a sign of spiritual weakness? if so what if you ask god for help with your situation and let him know what is bothering you. then the next day when you fall into the same lustful desires is god telling you that you have to do this on your own? Are there some things that god wants us to do ourselves?
It could be argued that failing to overcome any temptation is a sign of spiritual weakness. If that is true, we are all weak. Paul argues in Romans 7 that we often do that which goes against what our spirits want to do. But he concludes that with a praise of God, who can rescue him (and us) from our sins. God continues to forgive, if we continue to ask for forgiveness. But that doesn’t mean that we should intentionally sin. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid!” (Romans 6:1)
There may be some things God wants us to do ourselves, relying on his help. There are very few things, I think, that he wants to do entirely for us. Nothing we could possibly do could bring about salvation from sin, so the grace of God does that for us. When it comes to facing temptation, though, God will provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13), but expects us to find it. If we pray to God for help with a situation one day, then succumb to temptation again the next day, we can not blame God for not helping us. We can only blame ourselves, if blame needs to be given, for not looking for the way of escape. “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man; but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hat conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (James 1:13-15) God won’t do it all for us, because he wants us to get stronger. “The trying of your faith works patience.” (James 1:3)
