Is it wrong to worship the Virgin Mary? Because in the ten commandments it says "thou shall have no other gods before Me."
Answer
It would certainly be wrong to worship Mary, or anyone else. God wants all our worship, because He alone is worthy of worship. The only other, if you consider him separate from God, to whom worship is given is Jesus the Messiah, God's son. (Hebrews 1:6) When John fell down to worship an angel, he was told "worship God." (Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9)
In fairness to those in the Catholic Church, I must point out that most do not claim to worship Mary. They do consider that, because of her position as the mother in the flesh of Jesus, she might have some extra "pull" with Jesus. Therefore many pray to her as a go-between. But most will say that they don't worship her, but God and Jesus only.
