Are there two different Nehemiah's in the bible? Also Mordecai one or two.
Answer
There appear to be two men named Mordecai in scripture. The best known was Esther’s uncle and the real hero of the book of Esther. The other (although it may be the same man) is listed in Ezra 2:2 and Nehemiah 7:7 as a person who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel.
There are three Nehemiah’s in the Bible. Two are mentioned in the book of Nehemiah. The first is found in Ezra 2:2 and Nehemiah 7:7 (the same passages previously mentioned about the second Mordecai). A second lesser-known Nehemiah was Nehemiah of Azbuk (Nehemiah 3:16) who helped repair the wall of Jerusalem. The best-known Nehemiah, of course, is the one after the book is named. He was the son of Hachaliah and was the Tishratha (governor) of Judea under the Persians.
