Can people make a deal with the Devil or sell their soul by saying words and not worshipping or do they have to worship the Devil to sell their soul?

The Bible says nothing about people selling their souls to the devil. All of that seems pretty much ridiculous to me. Why would the devil buy something that he can have for free? Anyone who would try to sell their soul to the devil already admits that they believe he has power equal to God. Just that is enough to prove to the devil that he already has that person’s soul. So why should he give that person anything, assuming that he had the power to do so? You don’t buy something you already own.
And why would anyone try to make a deal with the devil, even if he had the power to give what they wanted? “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. “(John 8:44) The devil is untrustworthy. He would just as easily take your soul and not give what he promised. If it were possible to sell one’s soul to him, he would renege on the purchase price. When he buys something from you, he pays with a bad check.
